NIGHT TRAVELING…OH THE JOYS

One of the grueling processes of traveling from city to city thus far has been waiting to board the night buses which leave as late as 12:30AM.  Imagine having to lounge around in a day of filth if no showers are available in the hotel lobbies or fighting to stay awake and entertained until the midnight hour.

Or better yet…imagine having an upset stomach and  enduring a lengthy 10-hour trip with a panic attack always lulling over you when a urge of the bubble guts hit you. Bubble guts….a technical term coined by my husband for traveler’s diarrhea. It’s also been called Delhi Belly and you better carefully respect the urge for if it comes…it comes in full smelly force.

A different but new experience was on our ‘VIP’ bus to Cambodia which we found out the sleeping quarters were arranged for 2 travelers in the same bed. Yes…works out perfect for us but the poor girl in the bunk above us having to sleep next to a random man must be stressful. AWKWARD!!! To make matters worst, this particular sleeping bus had no ‘water closet’…aka toilets. So here we are stuck on a night bus with no toilet and a 8 hour trip over night and Jason having an upset stomach. Joyful experience ahead and so much for ‘VIP’.  All the way to Siem Reap, Jason cracked jokes with our new found friend and bus mates from the Philippines about our so called ‘VIP’ bus and ‘VIP’ cost  but made the best of the situation.

So as great as buses can be they do come with some stress especially when you combine bubble guts or having too much dinner before boarding.
